I was there just last month and rode around just getting an idea of how things have changed. It's sad, as it looked so depressed to me. Nothing going on and it looked like everyone's backyard had junk in it! It was such a sweet town in it's day. How did it get so run down?

Now, now! It's not all bad... ;D Falls Creek is like so many other older towns, or older sections of towns, around here, and elsewhere. There was no property left in town to develop, and people moved to the outskirts to build new houses. Since we were a modest town, most of the older houses were not attractive for people looking for a fixer upper, they want 2000-2500 sq. ft.....that is still a mansion here. So a lot of older houses seemed to fall into disrepair, sadly. But there are bright spots. The old Miller house on the corner of Fourth and Fuller has undergone an amazing renovation, and the lower end of Taylor Ave has seen some recent remodeling. There are others, along with many that have remained in good shape. I guess eventually all the rundown properties will fall down and some new homes will spring up.

Mr. Administrator, If you had grown up here and left for 30 years and came back, yes it is pretty much bad. It is like a little kid, you don't notice him grow up that much, but when someone that hasn't seen him for a while sees him he notices a big difference. The only thing I think is nicer is the playground. Dispite not having bossman and the big box there, it still is a very nice little place. You have to admit, most of the houses are run down compared to what they once were. I realize they are much older, but paint doesn't cost that much....

Oh no argument there, but it ain't going to turn, here or anywhere else. Take a ride through any town, through the older parts where the houses used to be well kept 30 years ago. Nobody cares to live in a 1200 square foot house today, and that is what Falls Creek, along with many other small towns, consisted of.
Sure, a town that had sections of large homes still has appeal today. People will buy an older Victorian house, one that is maybe 2,500-3,000 sq. ft., and fix it up, not so with a little 1,000 square foot box. The result is those poor old houses decline in value, and are left go. It is no different here than in any other old town of modest means. Not a thing that can be done about it. Sad, but true.

There will be some changes in the big F.C. in the near future. The road into town from the Sheetz side is going to be widened to three lane and a stop light put in at the intersection of larkeytown road . Just a little bit further and we could have called us a one light town. Also on Main street at the old Hick's garage site they are planning to make this site a little park with a pavillion . It will be interesting to see the progress of this

Right now the memorial park is on hold till some grant money can be found. Just to put topsoil and plant grass is well over 10K. Would have been nice to had it planted before Memorial Day but the grant money that was supposed to help did not materialize.

Adding a park is a great idea! Especially in that area! Hope the grant money comes thru sooner than later. It would be such a lovely addition to that little town.

brucie Just a note of what you eye may have seen, yes there is some run down houses in town but not as many as there was in the 80's and early 90's . Alot of homes have been remodled and fixed up. if you entered the town from 830 I can see the first impression may have clouded your vision after 30 years. But it's a nice town, been here for 50 years and I like the place. Does need cleaned up! but isnt that true with most of your old towns. On the bright side some changes are coming allthough change takes time. By the way if you don't have anything to do there is a golf tourament May 9 at the Beechwoods golf course benefits the Park. Mite see some old friends there. Applications available at borough office 371-2121 or call 371-8834 I think they would mail you one.

Thanks for the imput Wildcat 2, I would like to come and see some old timers, even though I am not much of a golfer, I sure would like to see some faces of the pass...Let me be clear on one thing. My intentions werent to trash the town...I grew up there!!! It is a great place to raise kids (children to be politically correct). And you are correct about other small towns. But if you have been there your entire life, it is not as shocking to you to drive through the place as it is for us alma mater creekers that have been gone for a long time. I guess that is one of the pleasures/punishments of getting old!!! Rock on FC!!!!
