My great grandfather was James Moffet Osborne who was born in Falls Creek Feb 11, 1875 and died feb 7, 1947 in Johnsonburg, Elk County. His wife was Susannah Neal of Punxsatawney. My grandmother, Blanche Marie Osborne (Constable)was also born in Falls Creek, Oct 21, 1896(died Johnsonburg 1967). Her older sister Zelda was also born in F.C., as were two younger brothers who died in infancy and two younger sisters, Phyllis, (1899-1907) who was burned to death in a house fire, and Clarice(1903-1907), who died a few weeks later of dysentery. You can find great grandpa James in the upper left hand corner of the photo of the Osborne-Shaffer saw mill on this site. Referencing the book, "The Osbornes and the McCulloughs", written by Mattie Osborne Smith and her daughter Jennie Smith Dixon, published by Keystone Printing in Rockton, 1960, my ancestors were some of the first Scots-Irish to arrive in the area in the 1820's and 1830's when it was still called The Beechwoods. This book is now available in reprint on-line. All people in this book are now on my ancestry.com site, tied in with Find a Grave with photographs of several individuals, the earliest dating to 1859. If you want to know how all the local creeks were straightened...read the book.

I'm a professional genealogist (24 years) and would be more than happy to help any descendants of our family connect to Mattie's book.
