I thought I would get this thread started from comments made in the Collins and Nolder thread. That purple people eater car that wildcat2 referred to was a 1965 Plymouth Fury with a screaming 383 CI engine that would burn the rubber right off the tires, Of course I had to get it going about 10 mph in reverse then slam the gear shift into forward to get the tires to spin. But it sure could smoke em. Let's hear some more stories about your 1st. cars.

This is a cool topic! My first car was a 65 mustang, green. I bought it from a Lindenmuth(sp) in Smithtown, paid $350. I wish I had it now. Then, when Bill and I got engaged we traded it for a 72 Cougar, also green. We were sleeping one night in our apartment on Fuller Ave., when a kid came down the road drunk and took out several mailboxes and our car! He pushed it into the intersection. We had to total it because you couldn't get the grill replaced. I loved that car too, it still had rice in it they threw at our wedding. I cried when they towed it away. You could sit at a stop light and when it changed, look back behind you and people were still sitting at the light! It had get up and go. I had a lead foot too though....

Well Grady, you either made a typo or your memory is getting fuzzy in your old age. 1963 Plymouth Fury 1965 Plymouth Fury Here is a '65 that is darn near identical to yours Grady.... I don't recall your Mustang teabab, but I do remember that Cougar. It was a sharp looking car, '72 was the last year before the big 5mph bumpers. I always thought that 1972 was the best looking Cougar they ever made. I never knew about your car getting creamed though, that was too bad. For me, my first car was a 1971 Chevy Vega, banana yellow. It wasn't to fast with it's 4 cylinder, but handled like it was on rails. And...it was a hatchback with a backseat that folded down.... At least it sounded fast after I put a Thrush muffler on it.... ;D

Grayson, Do you mean 383 CI? I remember the purple people eater. I always liked that unit. My first unit was a beige van that I purchased in the Air Force. I am not sure the year. Possibly 69 or 70. I sold it to my brother before I went to Thailand in 74' Scotty or Grayson you guyz may remember it. I bought it in New Mexico and drove it to Lousiana, then to Falls Creek and sold it to my bro before I left. Didn't have it very long. That started the van buying in the click I believe. Then scotty had the van, my bro had a convesion van, and grayson had the graveyard special van. Reminds me of the movie Up in smoke??!!

My first car was a 66 mustang, I bought from Don Murry for $165. My second car was a 70 Cougar. Then I started getting pickup trucks. Would love to have either of those cars back now.

Here is how I tried to portray these cars...... 1. George Garthwaite..... the best story here took place late one night on Quarry Ave. It involved that ancient white tow truck from Powers Garage and a guy named "Lippers".... ;D ;D 2. Chicken Ross....Remember the "There is a difference" license plate? 3. Jon Connor....Okay it was blue with a black top. There was that incident on Long Ave., in front of Mohney-Yarger, in that car. A little icy that night. 4. Me....the "Golden Olds"...Almost as famous as the "Blue Goose". 5. Tim Vance...That thing would fly, had a 390 in it as I recall. 6. George Connor......might be a year off, and the original was brown, but the trips down 80 on our way to Knoxdale were legendary. 7. Sam Jr. ......most of the stories about this car involved high speeds and close calls....like that evening on Shaffer Road...pre mall days.... 8. Norton......damn thing never would start.. ;D

OK Scotty I'm on the same page with you now, got me laughing thinking of the different things that happened with those cars and people. My teeth are still rattling from those trips to Knoxdale in dad's old wagon. Who knew an old car like that could go so fast down interstate 80. Its a wonder were still alive !!
