I remember when I was a youngster, all of Falls Creek's streets seemed smooth as glass. There were no big money issues in the borough, and on any given day during the summer months you would see the big yellow pieces of equipment with Collins and Nolder painted on the side of them paving the streets. I swear they used to pave Deemer Ave and Osborne Ave every other year. C&N provided a lot of jobs for the people in town and the surrounding area. Not only that they provided a lot of entertainment for the youngsters watching them work on the roads. RIP C&N..............

Yep, Collins & Nolder was a thriving Falls Creek business for a lot of years. I sure had a lot of fun as a kid playing in those gravel piles. Of course every so often Holly would catch us, on his way home from the Eagles, and give us hell but I don't think he was too serious, not enough to scare us off for long anyway.... ;D ;D

I spent a few years working for C&N . Was a good job and good people. Didn't have the chance to work with Holly though. Unfortunately the company did not modernize its equipment and keep up with the Hawbaker's, Herbert Impt's and the New Enterprise's .

Your are right Grady, sadly when there is no vision the people (in this case) the company perish. The original management/sales team had nobody to fill their shoes. Some of the younger members are too young to know some of the great things Holly Collins did for the community.

Hey, when Collins and Nolder paved the street up by my house, I made money, too. Selling lemonade. Seymour Dill was my best customer! Also, Holly., Charlie Clark and Merle Collins were regular shuffleboard players at the Eagles. Holly was always good for a quarter for the jukebox!

A little story about my C&N days. We were tar and chipping roads in Treasure Lake . I was the clean up man going behind the chipping crew. It was my job to clean up any mess and put chips on any exposed tar. I was quite a ways behind the main crew when I came upon a large area of exposed tar. I stopped the truck got out and grabbed a shovel full of gravel to spread over the tar . As I got near the edge of the road and was ready to spread the gravel I looked down by my feet and there was a rattlesnake about two feet from me. As my friends know my fear of snakes now took over my body. I jumped , screamed like a little girl and proceeded to break the land speed record for Treasure Lake. After about a mile when I started to slow down I regained my composure and returned to the truck. I went over to gather up my shovel to get the he-- out of there when I discovered that the snake was dead and it had been put in a coil and its head propped up with a stick . When I caught up with the main crew they asked me if I happened to see any Rattlesnakes ! >:(What a bunch of jokester's those guys were ! ;D ;DI believe that was the start of my gray hair.

Tonight (Feb 21st) is the 54th anniversary of my father's (James E. Nolder) passing. I have so much enjoyed going through your blog. You have brought back so many memories for me and warmed my heart. I now live in Houston, Tx., after many years on the road as a professional musician and entertainer. And even though I've lived all over the country over my past forty three years of chasing that Neon Rainbow. my heart still resides in Falls Creek, and always will. God Bless You All.
