Thought I'd bump this back to the top. Come on, I know there are Sentry girls lurking out there, sign up and tell us all about the glory days....

My wife was one of them, but unfornately she's no longer with us. I did talk to 2 of the old Sentries today and told them about the site and the Sentries thread...told them that they needed to sing up and give some info. I will have to look for some pics my wife had...the're around here somewhere.

Okay, I finally got some pictures. These pictures are from '71 and '72. I'm not positive but I think these may have been the first two years of the team. Thanks to Cindy Fritz for sharing these photos with us. I'm guessing this first one is from '71. No uniforms indicates that it is most likely the early days of the team's existence.Back Row: Tish Knouse, Barb Staley, Vicki Snyder, Debby Anderson,Wanda Mikulec (manager) Barb Bukowski, Shirley McCullas, Cindy Burkett Front Row: Judy Hasselback, Bonnie Bukowski, Susan “Sam” Bell, Patty Ross, Carol Bell, Sue Burkett, Gail McDonald. Here are a couple from '72, now they have uniformsAnd from the personell present in this photo, I'd say it is from '72. Looks to be at an awards banquet.Back Row: Paula Phillips, Tish Knouse, Gail McDonald, Cindy Burkett, Debby Anderson, Wanda Mikulec (manager) Middle Row: LuAnn Snell, Vicki Snyder, Barb Bukowski, Sue Burkett, Bonnie Bukowski, Tina Silvis Front Row: Susan “Sam” Bell, Barb Staley, Stephanie Felix, Carol Bell, Judy Hasselback.

Wow! How about those Sentries? It is so nice to think that the town remembers us! The first picture we did not have uniforms, we were excited about the hats though. Our manager Wanda always made us wear white socks! To some that was humiliating and they waited only until they were actually on the field before putting them on! I won't mention names.... The second picture we did finally get those uniforms, after a lot of hoagie and bakes sales and passing the hat. Falls Creek was very generous to us. Boy did we think we looked good! I think it showed in our playing. Those were great times, and I was proud to call myself a Sentrie! By the way, I picked the name for the team by just putting my finger in the dictionary and coming upon the word "Sentry". It meant to guard against defeat. Thus after a vote we became the Sentries and not the Wandettes! Sincerely, Barb Bukowski Blake

When was the Sentries last year of playing? I remember them as a hard working scrappy team.

I left the Sentries around 74, but the team kept playing on into the early 80's. Most of the originals had left by then and the team had many new members I didn't know. Debbie Anderson Smith would be able to fill you in on them. I know they did many tournaments and went as far as New Mexico for one. We were scrappy! Ha Ha!

Hey teabab, next time you see, or talk to, Debbie or any of the other Sentries who played on into the later years, tell them to come here and join the party. I'm sure there are more people than just me that would love to hear more of the team's history.
I mean if Falls Creek had a sports team that made it the whole way to New Mexico to compete, I think that is a tale worth preserving for future generations. And I'm sure there were other accomplishments, league championships, tournament victories etc.
