Is this in Falls Creek? If so check out all the hemlock trees. Where did you find this photo? what a pic!!

Yep, it's Falls Creek, or probably Evergreen at that time. The store, biggest building in the picture, was owned by John Reed and was one of the first commercial establishments. I'm pretty sure John Reed was the first Postmaster too, in Victor or Evergreen.
Those would be White Pine, not Hemlock. Most of this area was covered with dense White Pine forests which were the source of the timber boom that made guys like John DuBois very wealthy. Hardwood forests, like we have today, sprouted up after the White Pine was removed.
This picture was taken from the DuBois side of the railroad station, near where the black iron bridge is today. The hill on the left, covered with big pines, would be where the Pine Inn is today. Ever wonder why it was called the Pine Inn? How about Pine Rock? Today there are no pines near Pine Rock, but at one time it was surrounded by huge White Pine forest.
The picture is from the History of Falls Creek, published on the towns centennial in 1948.
