Anybody use this. I quit feeding Norton and McAfee quite a while ago. Besides the amount of money they charge, they are terrible resource hogs, especially if you are suckered into buying their overblown products with all the unnecessary extras. I don't see a problem with Norton Anti-virus, in it's stripped down version it does what it is supposed to. But AVG Free has been keeping all of our computers virus free for quite some time, and you can't beat the price... Here is a link........ free.avg.com/

I got rid of Norton in January and installed AVG. Right after installing AVG my computer crapped out. I had a hard time even getting on in safe mode. It would start booting then just as it was to get into Windows, it would reboot again. I had to reload the whole hard drive to get back where I am now. I cannot say 100% it was AVG but all the trouble started within 1 week of installing it. Right now I am still using a trial version of Norton but am looking for another AV software package.

Yikes! That is not good.
I would think it is a coincidence though. I never made the switch until I researched it fairly thoroughly. An IT guy for a government agency first recommended it to me. But hard headed me still waited until another computer guy, a systems administrator of a local business told me that was what they used. I then did some on-line research...cnet...pcworld...etc. before I made the switch.
I have it on 3 XP machines, two with Intel processors, and one with an AMD. And I have it on one Vista computer, all without any glitches. I'm sure there are better, especially faster scanning, AV programs out there, but not sure if there is a better free program though.
It is a love/hate product though. It gets good reviews from editors, and most professionals, but individual reviews vary wildly.
This is what cnet says......
The bottom line: AVG Anti-Virus 8 is solid at finding and removing viruses and spyware as well as blocking Web threats, but could be lighter on system resources and provide more technical support options.

I just installed Viper. PC world gave it good reviews it was 19 bucks compared to the 74 bucks Norton wanted for me to renew my 360 for 3 years. We will see how Viper is..
