Bill's Market was a long time fixture on Main Street, one of several markets in town when I was growing up. Bill McDonald was the owner as far back as I remember. He, along with other store owners in those days, were real hands on type merchants. They worked long and hard and had great personal relationships with their customers. I remember Bill even delivering groceries in his little red Jeep CJ. Here are pictures of a couple advertising mementos that I found.

I think it was our very first chicken bbq at the firehall we ordered the chickens from Bill's Market. When we picked them up, he donated them to us. He really treated us well.

After Bill McDonald, I believe it was Dave Garthwaite that owned Bill's. He was a good guy too. I lived just up the street, half way between Willar's and Bill's, so I didn't go to DuBois for grocerys very often.
Then Velma (Johns) Garthwaite ran it for a while, I think she was the last to have a market there.

That's right, I forget about them, they had it for a while too. Bill and Betty, I believe. Thora Mae Hauck worked as a cashier there for years, for several owners. And I remember Brooks Null being the butcher there at one time.

Bill was related to Louie Franco from Brockway who also owned a similar market in Brockway. Louie's daughter Linda quit at DuBois Catholic and returned to Brockway to school before graduating. I had an art class with her and she was telling me about the relationship. I believe she told me Louie helped Bill get started.
