I was wondering if the tomato blight has hit the DuBois area yet? In Somerset county we are seeing it a lot. Last year we had to throw out all of our tomatos and this year already we have it in the container ones we put on the deck! We planted in the garden, but have been told to spray as much as possible with a fungicide especially after it rains. They say that may not even help. You have to dispose of the infected tomatos properly, in plastic bags, or it will just keep spreading. If your neighbor has it and just let his tomatos sit, it will just get into the air. Everyone down here lost their garden last year with this and now I see it is going to get us again this year. It may take a long time to get rid of it. I guess I have a lot to worry about, oil spill and now tomato blight!

I have not heard anyone say they had it yet this year. PSU says not to plant tomatoes or potatoes in infected ground for three years. So this year I planted my tomatoes in planters on the deck and in front of the garage. Only have onions and lettuce in the infected raised bed. I guess wet weather increases the chance of it showing up. Last year I lost all my tomatoes in a few days after it appeared.

We had these tomatoes in a container on the deck. I think they had the blight when we bought them. You can't prove it though, and they won't give you your money back I am sure. I am pretty sure we will lose the garden ones too. Three years, huh? That is a long time. I hate it because I always make spagettii sauce. I remember my dad having a garden every year and he grew what ever he wanted no problem. What is happening to our environment? I hate chemicals!

The blight did get me last year. Very nice tomato plants till about mid August then they were all dead about a week later. Followed some post about the blight, said to spray round up on the garden to kill all the weeds then lime, I didn't get that done till spring so well see what happens, don't like chemicals ether. I do have a book from Jerry Baker America's Master Gardener that you use all difference house hold things to mix up to help your plants to grow better. Things like beer, dish wishing soap, veggies, and other things that did help and make your plants produce more, but what a hassle a lot of blinder grinding and mixing. Have to check the book and see if he has any thing on the blight. The blight is not new. From what I have been reading it is allways there but the heat will kill it. have to check for small white specks on your plants, if they are there you ether spray with chemicals or pull your plants.
